"Obama claims to offer change, while he's picking the pocket of the taxpayer to enrich major corporations. McCain's claim of being a maverick is disingenuous at best, as his statements on the bailout place him in league with the president and the rest of the senior GOP leadership. Our goal was 8,000 signatures to get Libertarian Presidential Candidate Bob Barr on the ballot in Alabama. Today I dropped off the last batch. Our grand total submitted: 8,796. We expect to get the confirmation news of Bob Barr on the Alabama ballot within the next couple of weeks. The LPA offers condolences to Mark Bodenhausen The Libertarian Party of Alabama would like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of Mark Bodenhausen as he mourns the loss of his wife Brenda. Mark has served multiple terms as the Chair of the Libertarian Party of Alabama and is currently honored with the title of Chairman Emeritus. State Convention Scheduled The Libertarian Party of Alabama State Convention will be held April 19th and 20th in Birmingham, at the BJCC. We've already got a great start on the speaker line-up, including former Congressman Bob Barr, Stuart Carter of Free the Hops, former LP gubernatorial candidate Loretta Nall, Alabama House Rep. Cam Ward, and former Alabama Ron Paul Field Director Shana Kluck as speakers. UPDATE: Loretta Nall will be unable to attend. In her place, Dan Roberts of DailyDixie.com will be speaking. Hartselle Libertarian Helps Kill Local Tax A Libertarian Party activist in Hartselle was instrumental in killing a local tax hike last night. Jonny Letson has been in both dominant local papers several times as a leader in the fighting the tax increase—which was defeated yesterday by voters 1,690 to 1,459. “I'm not convinced a new school will make our kids smarter,” Jonny Letson was quoted in the Hartselle Enquirer. “I think raising taxes is just the easy way out.” ### Alabama Libertarians Oppose Proposed Statewide Smoking Ban Citing "basic property rights and individual liberty," the LPA and state chair Stephen Gordon have issued their denunciation of proposed legislation banning smoking in most indoor businesses in Alabama.
