Statement from LPA Chairman on the congressional passage of the Wall Street bailout

Birmingham - "Congress and Wall Street just 'rescued' $700 billion from the wallets of 'greedy' taxpayers," said state Libertarian chairman Stephen Gordon.  "The Bush-Obama-McCain-Bailout (BOMB) illustrates that there isn't a dime's worth of difference between the two parties."

Montgomery Advertiser hopes Alabamians have same gas shortage problems as Georgians

Libertarian Party rejects appeals for more bad government

"Alabamians should be proud that we beat Georgia on the football field over the weekend," Gordon said. "We should also be proud that we have better public policy pertaining to price gouging than Georgia. Or would the Montgomery Advertiser prefer that we limit our football scores to no more than one touchdown per quarter?"

As evidenced by recent debate pertaining to federal bailouts, the Libertarian Party is the only political party in America opposed to government intervention in the marketplace.

Bob Barr Accurately Predicted Bailout Crisis

Libertarian Party of Alabama Applauds Aderholt's "No" Vote

"Barr is consistently and courageously battling on principle for the rights of the common man -- unlike most of our state congressional delegation, leaders from both parties on the Hill, as well as McCain and Obama," said Gordon. "Obama claims to offer change, while he's picking the pocket of the taxpayer to enrich major corporations. McCain's claim of being a maverick is disingenuous at best, as his statements on the bailout place him in league with the president and the rest of the senior GOP leadership. The only presidential candidate supporting a constitutional limited role of government is Congressman Barr."

The Libertarian Party of Alabama urges all Alabama voters to continue to contact their elected representatives and demand that they vote "no" on any current or future bailout proposal.

Former Congressman Bob Barr Wins LP Presidential Nomination

Denver - The Libertarian Party has nominated former Congressman Bob Barr as its candidate for president for the 2008 election.

"I'm sure we will emerge here with the strongest ticket in the history of the Libertarian Party," Barr stated in his victory speech shortly after being selected as the Party's nominee. "I want everybody to remember that we only have 163 days to win this election. We cannot waste one single day."

More than 650 Libertarian delegates met in Denver from May 22 till the 26 for the 2008 Libertarian National Convention. After six rounds of voting Sunday afternoon, Barr was selected as the Party's presidential nominee.

"We're proud to present to the American voters Bob Barr as our presidential nominee," says Libertarian Party spokesperson Andrew Davis. "While Republicans and Democrats will fight for their own power in November, Libertarians will fight for Americans. Bob Barr is one of the strongest candidates in the Party's 37-year history, and we look for him to have an enormous impact in the 2008 race. Republicans and Democrats have good reason to fear a candidate like Barr, who refuses to accept the 'business-as-usual' attitude of the current political establishment. Americans want and need another choice, and that choice is Bob Barr."

State Convention Scheduled

The Libertarian Party of Alabama State Convention will be held April 19th and 20th in Birmingham, at the BJCC. We've already got a great start on the speaker line-up, including former Congressman Bob Barr, Stuart Carter of Free the Hops, former LP gubernatorial candidate Loretta Nall, Alabama House Rep. Cam Ward, and former Alabama Ron Paul Field Director Shana Kluck as speakers. UPDATE: Loretta Nall will be unable to attend. In her place, Dan Roberts of DailyDixie.com will be speaking.

We are trying to keep the cost of this convention as low as humanly possible while providing quality speakers in a quality auditorium. Thanks to the hard work of our convention committee, we've managed to get the price down to $25 for both days.
